Dear Friends:
A good church is hard to find. How do you know what you’re looking for? Why would anyone seek out church—isn’t
coffee, the sun coming in the window, and the New York Times enough? It wasn’t for me. It is scary to go back to institutions
that loom large, all that stuff, history, tradition. Why would I want it? And what is “it” anyway?
The church in the 21st century has to draw
us in, in spite of ourselves. It has
to ooze spirit, acceptance, possibility, and NOT judgment, “we know it all
already,” and “how dare you think you might belong here.” Human institutions have culture in the
stucco and often it is not what people thought was being communicated. In the 21st century churches
have to work hard not to answer all questions before any are asked. We have to hold the space, the sacred
space so you can enter in and discover the questions you want to ask or
contemplate or put out there.
God, known by a thousand different names, is never
the same or on the same exact path for everyone. Each of us is unique and
each moment something might touch us that makes sense, heals, or sings.
Here at St. Jude’s we are seekers of community. Maybe the day you come, will speak to you
softly or loudly that life is richer, wider, or deeper than we know. Come Celebrate
God’s Grace and Share the Journey.
Welcome!
